Amplified Ancient Tea Recipe for Detox and Removing Inflammation

I found an ancient tea recipe for detox on For Health Benefits which makes some sweeping health claims that might be true, but I wanted to play it safe and not claim it can completely heal 50 health problems. The spices in this tea can definitely soothe many body systems and bring your overall health up.

It’s a great recipe with ingredients that many in the Eastern world incorporate in multiple meals and beverages on a daily basis. They are tried and true, and modern Western medical science continues to expound on previously undetected benefits.

I wanted to “amplify” the recipe for flavor and benefits, and perhaps to better suit Western tastes. I also wanted to add some notes and other options.

Ancient recipe ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/6 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • Pinch of cardamom
  • Add natural honey to taste

Mix spices well. Add cup of boiling water and stir. Add the milk or cream. If using seeds, they should be cooked for five minutes in the water first.


  • Use loose leaf black tea instead of water
  • Consider raw milk or cream OR almond or coconut milk/cream
  • Consider a pinch of black pepper to amplify turmeric benefits
  • Should use some type of strainer, cloth might be best

Black tea gives a boost without the jitters and definitely adds flavor. Pu ehr, a more fermented type of black tea, and more pungent, is shown to aid weight loss. These ingredients possess some detoxing benefits because they help with liver function and are anti-microbial without hurting the gut flora. They aid in digestion! But what stands out most to me is the anti-inflammation and pain-fighting power. The turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and especially the cloves pack a powerful antioxidant punch that helps sweep out inflammation. All of them contain vitamins, minerals and electrolytes, as well as naturally occurring fiber, which can help clear your skin and minimize inflammation. Cardamom is profound for helping not only with digestion, but also as a mood lifter. Yes, this would be a great drink to have everyday and a way to eventually cut down on expensive supplements.

Speaking of which – these items are actually cheaper and better at the health food store. It’s true! Buy them in bulk and transfer to glass containers at home. They are typically organic and much cheaper by the ounce than grocery store non-organic spices that often carry preservatives and anti-caking additives. Get them fresh and cheap at your local health food store or buy them from the suppliers on Amazon.

For Health Benefits writes that you can drink this recipe unstrained all day. Maybe most people can, but I wanted to offer some caution. Indeed, these spices are effective, but that means they can alter your biology or disrupt or increase the effects of prescription medicine. Turmeric, ginger and cinnamon are great for lowering both blood sugar and high blood pressure, but that means they can add to the effects of drugs that do the same, or drop sugar/pressure for those that already have that problem. They can also aid in correcting those problems over time, but if you feel weird at all it’s time to cut back. Drinking unstrained is not a good idea – it can lead to choking.

Also, keep your eye on the FDA when it comes to buying bulk spices – they’ve made it startlingly clear with a ridiculous report on “the dangers of spices” that they are taking action to go after them soon. It might start out as a mass irradiation campaign. We know that this is not the way to enjoy the best benefits to these healing spices, and we deserve the right to access them!
