Dove’s ‘Real’ Beauty Products Are Filled With Cancer Chemicals, Fake Dyes And Toxic Fragrances

Dove is on of the most well-known beauty brands in the world, marketing itself as different from the others as it focuses on a more ‘natural’ image.

The adverts showcase make-up free women and boasts of ‘real beauty’ but in reality, much of what goes into Dove is far from natural.

Since Dove was launched in 1957 the selling point has always been that it is ‘better’ for you than other soaps, highlighting the fact that it is made of 1/4 moisturizer. A famous ad-campaign in the 1990’s showed a piece of litmus paper being placed on the soap to show how low in acidity it was, appealing to the more conscious consumer. But the truth is quite the opposite.

Dove contains many of the same ingredients as other mass produced cosmetics. You might think you are opting for a ‘better’ or more ‘natural’ product but if you take a look at the ingredients, you will find they are depressingly familiar.

For example, Doves Deep Moisture Body Wash contains these ingredients:

Water (Aqua), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate, Lauric Acid, Sodium Lauroyl Glycinate, Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil Or Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sodium Chloride, Glycerin, Fragrance (Parfum), Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Dmdm Hydantoin, Stearic Acid, Citric Acid, Bht, Tetrasodium Edta, Methylisothiazolinone, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.

Do all these ingredients sound natural to you? What do these chemicals actually do?

Methylisothiazolinone – Studies have found this chemical to contribute to neurodegenerative disorders and seizures.

Fragrance/Parfum is a common skin irritant and the leading cause of dermatitis from cosmetic use. Has been linked to skin sensitivities

Tetrasodium Edta is made from formaldehyde, a known carcinogen. Also, it is a penetration enhancer, which means it breaks down the skin thus letting other chemicals easier access into the bloodstream

Sodium Tallowate – This ingredient comes from the fatty tissue in cows, meaning it is not suitable for vegans

Sodium Laureth Sulfate– There have been around 16,000 studies testing exposure to SLS which have linked it to:

  • Irritation of the skin and eyes
  • Organ toxicity
  • Developmental/reproductive toxicity
  • Neurotoxicity, ecotoxicology, endocrine disruption, and biochemical or cellular changes
  • Possible mutations and cancer
