Whoopi Goldberg Launching Cannabis Products to Help Women Deal with Menstrual Pain
Comedian and actress Whoopi Goldberg is the latest celebrity to endorse and invest in medical cannabis. Inspired by her own lifetime of difficult periods, Goldberg has teamed up with founder of Om Edibles, Maya Elisabeth, to create a line of products aimed at helping women treat menstrual pain.
Goldberg specifically said the idea for the unique products, which promote relaxation and offer relief from the symptoms associated with the menstrual cycle, was prompted by the lack of other products on the market:
“The only products available to us were filled with ingredients we couldn’t even pronounce and I discovered that I was not alone in this. When I looked further, I learned that this area was considered a ‘niche’ … a ‘niche’ that includes half of the population! I was fortunate enough to be connected to Maya and this company is the result of that collaboration,” she told ET in a statement.
Building on the existing ways people administer medical cannabis, Whoopi and Maya’s Signature Line includes slightly more unusual products, such as cannabis-infused cacao butter, an herbal tincture made with medicinal herbs and superfoods, a cannabis and beeswax skin rub ,and lavender bath salts. While helpful for all pain relief, when used topically, cannabis mingles with nerve endings where pain is felt, and therefore is potentially very soothing for women suffering the aches, pains and cramping associated with their menstrual cycle. It also affects the brain’s pain receptors, elevates mood, and relaxes the mind so the body can feel comfortable and recover.

Goldberg has always been open about her medical cannabis use, writing frequently about how it helps her and countless others live comfortably with uncomfortable conditions. She has said her love affair with her vape penhelped alleviate crippling glaucoma-induced headaches. After she found cannabis was the only treatment to provide relief from her own painful periods, the actress followed her heart and took a leap into the medical cannabis market.
On the Whoopi and Maya website, co-founder Maya Elisabeth explains why cannabis is a valuable medicine:
“Cannabis is the best medicine because you have more than 200 cannabinoid receptors all over your body. They’re all over your brain, they’re all over your vital organs, they’re everywhere important where you have major functions going on, like your reproductive center, your sleep center and the part of your brain that controls your appetite. The side effects are desirable, there’s feeling good, sleeping well, eating, probably having some laughter and some people only smoke cannabis to get those results, so it’s honestly the wonder, miracle medicine.”
