Coca-Cola Spends $119 Million Funding Health Research Groups To Improve Their Image

By John Vibes

This week, Coca-Cola revealed that in the past 5 years they have spent $118.6 million funding various health research projects. The company understands that their customers are becoming more health conscious, and it seems that they are attempting to assemble their own army of scientists who will convince people that Coca-Cola products are good for them.

Sandy Douglas, president of Coca-Cola North America recently admitted to The Guardian that they are losing credibility with their customers.

“We understand that our efforts on obesity are not always seen as credible. What we’re doing today is just a first step,” Douglas said.

It should come as no surprise that with so much money being thrown into research, that studies have actually come out saying that Coca-Cola was healthy, or that exercise was more important to diet when it comes to fitness. Earlier this year, it was actually reported that fitness and nutrition experts recommend a mini can of Coke to go with a healthy snack.

Coca-Cola sought out researchers that have an established belief that diet does not affect weight gain to the extent that most people think it does. The researchers argue that the key to staying slim is exercise and not diet.

Steven N. Blair, one of the researchers recently hired by coke, is the vice president of a group called the Global Energy Balance Network, which argues against a diet-based approach to weight loss. Now Blair and his fellow researchers have a $5.5 million dollar investment from Coke, to create a scientific study that will undoubtedly have the results that they want to see.

As we have been writing about in recent weeks, the industry of “science” has become so far removed from the fundamentals of the scientific method, that it can no longer be trusted. There are a variety of factors that have created this situation, namely the fact that most mainstream experiments are funded by government agencies or corrupt corporations.
