Customers are mixed about the quality of the digital device. Some mention that it gains a measurable improvement in quality over going direct from the TV, with high quality speakers that are built into the wall. The unit itself feels like a good quality product. However, others say that it never really worked right, the DAC on the Echo Link is not very good, and lacks HD and Ultra HD. They also say that they have been unable to get the digital input to work and that the feature was poorly implemented.

Customers are mixed about the HD quality of the digital device. Some mention that it's capable of streaming Amazon Ultra HD music, while others say that it can't even stream HD audio, just SD (44/16). Customers are dissatisfied with the connectivity of the digital device. They mention that it has an inconsistent connection, it wouldn't maintain a connection with Spotify, and it gets lost or doesn't connect. The Echo Link is slow to respond and sometimes fails to respond. It also wouldn' t connect via hard-wired Ethernet, and randomly goes off the network. Some customers are disappointed in the WiFi.

Not a bad sounding DAC, but it’s easily beat by a $120 DAC - Digital out limited to 48KHz.

Not a bad sounding DAC, but it’s easily beat by a $120 DAC - Digital out limited to 48KHz.
I read the information on it and understood what it is, a way to stream high resolution audio to your stereo. I’m using this on a two channel setup without video HDMI. It has a few quirks with the inputs, but support helped in mapping those out and they are consistent. Overall it’s a big improvement over the analog audio you get from an echo dot, and if you have a stereo setup without HDMI it’s the best way to get high resolution audio from Amazon Music HD without a USB DAC and streamer. It’s easy to stream audio wirelessly from apps and by voice request with Alexa. You can get better than CD quality out in digital format, but for full resolution you have to use the analog output and internal DAC.So now my annoyances: 1) the digital out ports limited to 48KHz, limiting the advantage a better DAC could utilize. 2) requires a family subscription vs individual. 3) No direct control of the inputs - The inputs have a glitch that if you don’t stop them before you start streaming, it will not go back to the input. So you have to stop playing the source going into the analog, toslink, or coax inputs before you send audio from The Amazon Music app, and I suspect Alexa (not tested) - and if you don’t it won’t go back. To fix, turn off the source, stream again, and when you disconnect the stream you can play through the input. They also have a priority order, I think it’s coax, then toslink, and finally analog. This is annoying if for example you have a Chrome cast connected to the toslink, as it always outputs a signal and you can’t get analog with it connected. If you do have a receiver or preamp with HDMI, you can get full 24 bit, 192KHz audio from an Amazon Fire TV 4K stick to most stereos, for some reason my Denon is only getting 16Bit 192KHz even though it supports 24 bit, but the Yamaha gets 24Bit 192KHz. This may be the better option for those using this type device that can receive digital audio over HDMI and is by far the least costly. In the end I returned the Link and used a HDMI Audio extractor with the Fire Stick 4K to feed up to 192KHz 24Bit audio to a Marantz DAC getting much improved sound over the Link.
