Avocados remain in the limelight, making for a fiber-rich and healthy fat addition to toast and just about any other meal you can imagine. Not only this, but the oil is also a fantastic source of nutrition and is versatile in its use in the kitchen. Feel free to use it to pan-fry meats, roast vegetables, or even fry potatoes (thanks to its high smoke point). As with any other cooking oil, there’s so many options to choose from on the market, so StudyFinds sought to find out what experts believe to be the best avocado oils on the shelves.

Avocado oil is very similar to olive oil nutritionally but can reach a smoke point of up to 520 degrees Fahrenheit, which sets it apart. It also is a great source of monounsaturated fats which are good for the heart, lutein, which supports eye health, and vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant.

Although the oil has become a popular cooking fat for health reasons, scientists warn that not every brand is created equal and that the Food and Drug Administration doesn’t regulate it well enough. In a recent investigation, researchers from the University of California found that in a sample of commercially sold avocado oils, 82% were stale or cut with cheaper oils. The food scientists on the team even said that three of the products they tested contained almost 100% soybean oil, despite misleading labeling that said it was “pure” avocado oil.
