6 Ways to Naturally Improve Mental Health

By Amanda Froelich

Life can be tough sometimes, and when things go wrong they can leave you feeling stressed, anxious, and even depressed. When this happens, it can be hard to even realize that you are in a rut with your mental health.

Mental health problems will affect a quarter of the population at some point in their lives. This could start off as stress and anxiety and work up to depression. This will include more severe forms of mental health problems such as bipolar, borderline personality disorder, or schizophrenia.

But what can you do to take care of yourself if you are struggling with your mental health?

Here are a few suggestions.

1. Speak To A Friend Or Family Member

They say that a problem shared is a problem halved. Open up to a family member of a friend about the way that you are feeling. By doing this, you will be able to share your problems and potentially come to some new understandings about them. Having a friend to speak to can make a huge difference in the way that you are feeling.

2. Speak With Your Doctor

Make an appointment to see your doctor. They will be able to advise you on some of the best ways of treating your mental health problems. This may be through the use of antidepressants or it could be through talking therapy such as cognitive behavior therapy.

3. Find A Therapist

Speaking to a therapist may help you to get things in order in your mind. There are many different types of therapists out there and everyone has their own way of working. Try a session with a therapist and see if they are for you before committing to a whole course of therapy with them. If they’re not right for you, then you should find another.

4. Use CBD Or Other Alternative Treatments

CBD is a treatment for stress and anxiety that is growing in popularity. Derived from the same plant as cannabis, CBD doesn’t have any of the psychoactive properties found in the cannabis drug. This means that there is no “high” and there is no risk of addiction.

Psychedelics may also offer some relief, you can find out more about those at Psychedelic Spotlight.

5. Get Plenty Of Sleep

It is recommended that you aim to get eight hours of sleep each night. Although it is not always possible to get that much sleep, you should try and keep a regular bedtime. If you are struggling with sleep make sure that you turn off all mobile devices an hour before bed and use lavender on your pillow to help you drop off.

6. Eat Well

Your diet is important. Make sure that you are eating a balanced diet and this will ensure that you have enough energy to keep going and to fight off stress. Make sure that you are eating lots of whole grains, plenty of fruit and veg, and instead of eating red meats you should eat fatty fish such as salmon or tuna.
