This bodybuilder healed his severe cystic acne by adopting a vegan diet, eating more vegetables and drinking a gallon of water a day.

Every year, Americans spend well over $1.4 billion to clear up skin conditions such as acne. Though many allopathic doctors maintain that diet and lifestyle play no part in the creation of the disease, others who have taken the initiative to experiment with their skin and diets tell a different tale.

One such individual is a bodybuilder named Brian Turner. The 23-year-old athlete relayed to his Instagram followers that the way he cleared up his acne-prone skin was by adopting a vegan diet, drinking a gallon of water a day, and eating up to 16 servings of vegetables a day.

For years, Turner suffered from severe cystic acne. He explained his transformation in a video he posted to his 70,000 followers:

“So I used to have super severe acne all over my face. I had nodular cysts – four, five, six of them – over my face every single day of my life. Literally never would I not have three or four cysts on my face.”

“Eventually I was able to clear it up. And a lot of you guys having been asking me, ‘How did you get clear? What did you do?’” he added.

Peoples’ interest in his crystal-clear skin prompted him to make the video. He admits that though he initially tried Accutane to clear his skin, weaning off the heavy duty anti-acne drug resulted in painful, inflamed cysts to once again form.

To clear his skin once and for all, Turner decided a lifestyle reform was needed. He tried a few different dietary tactics but eventually found that a balanced vegan diet situated his body best. He told his audience,

“So that means no animal-based products at all. But it also for me meant drinking way more water.”

He’s also pretty insistent that a plant-based diet free of animal products could benefit others’ skin conditions, as well.

“If you have acne…drop all dairy out of your diet, drink at least a gallon of water a day and eat at least 10 to 16 servings of vegetables a day,” he said. “If you do those two things I guarantee that you will see some difference in your skin.”

Warning! Editor’s note: Do not attempt to start off on day one by drinking 1 gallon of water – do not drink too much water at one time. This is a shock to the kidneys and could result in an emergency. An individual might like to work up slowly.

Even just removing main offenders from one’s diet, such as gluten, dairy, eggs, and soy, can often result in clear skin. That’s because these foods are common allergens, and promote inflammation in the gut. When the gut is inflamed, the skin – the body’s largest organ – often shows it.
