If you love Pearl Jam, you’re going to be stoked about what the group of musicians have done for Flint, Michigan, residents.

The Seattle rock band has donated over $385,000 to the town which has been affected by high levels of lead that leached into the water supply from old pipes.

The issue, which was declared a “State of Emergency,” has already prompted Cher, Muslim groups, and a few rappers to get involved.

Pearl Jam, however, is rocking to its own tune by pledging $125,000 to the local United Way. The musicians also talked their friends and business partners into pledging another $175,000.

In addition, the band created a CrowdRise page to let fans donate to the cause. All money raised will go to the Flint Water Fund set up by the United Way of Genesee County.

As of Friday, the page has already raised $85,000. In total, then, over $385K has been raised to assist the town – that’s something to celebrate!

The musicians are using their status and popularity to raise awareness about an important issue while catalyzing change.
