Astronauts Take First Bites of Their Space-Grown Food

Next up…pollination!

NASA Johnson

As the International Space Station crew gets ready for the first on-orbit tasting of space-grown lettuce, NASA Commentator Lori Meggs talks with Paul Zamprelli of Orbitec, the company that developed the Veggie greenhouse. This compact hardware was developed with an eye toward supporting future deep space missions beyond Earth orbit, to provide those crew members with a way to grow some of their own food.

They discuss space pollination as well as new technology to grow food in extreme climates.
