Explore The Surprising Benefits Of A Good Night’s Sleep

The unfortunate truth is most people undervalue the importance of a good night’s sleep. You spend all of your time worrying about seizing the day when you really should be worrying about seizing some Zzzs. Never underestimate the quality of your sleep.

Start By Inspecting That Mattress Of Yours

Before you can even begin to explore and appreciate the benefits of a good night’s sleep, you have to set yourself up to actually be getting one. Namely, you need to stop and ask yourself the following question: how old is your mattress?

There’s no magic number in regards to the perfect or ideal time to throw out items such as your mattress. After all, there are all sorts of factors that determine when a mattress expires such as:

  •  Your body weight
  •  Activities performed on the mattress
  • If you used a protector
  • The brand

The time frame for replacing a mattress is roughly 5 to 10 years. Now, investing several hundred to several thousand dollars into something you purchased from a local mattress store, such as Bedding Mart, and throwing it away inside of a decade probably doesn’t sound ideal.

The problem is you can’t really think about it as 5 to 10 years. You have to remember that an adult sleeps an average of 8 hours a night. So, you spend a little more than 14,000 hours on top of that mattress in just five years. When you look at it from that perspective, needing a new mattress in five years makes more sense.

Reap The Benefits

Now that you’ve either replaced your worn down mattress or determined when you need to replace it and worked on improving your quality of sleep, you can reap the benefits of said quality sleep.

Curious as to what those benefits are? Well, here’s a few of the more surprising ones you get to enjoy:

Improved Memory: Believe it or not, your brain does a lot of work while you are asleep. There’s a process called consolidation which allows your brain to fortify your memories. This happens while you are sleeping.

Improved Inflammation and Blood Pressure: Research shows those who get a good night’s sleep tend to struggle with blood pressure and inflammation problems less than those who suffer from sleep problems.

Live Longer: Resting and sleeping are commonly recommended by doctors any time you get sick. Sleep provides your body with a chance to naturally heal its own wounds. A person who sleeps well has a stronger immune system and a better quality of life.

Improved Libido: Unless you are single, this is a benefit everyone can enjoy. Who wouldn’t want to reap the benefit of improved or enhanced performance in the bedroom?

Safe Driver: One benefit most don’t think about is how getting a good night’s sleep improves your ability to drive safely. Experts say driving while drowsy is the equivalent of driving while drunk. By getting plenty of quality sleep, you will be safe and alert when behind the wheel.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to seize the day. Just remember, seizing sleep is going to improve your ability to do that better.
